It has been a while since DICE released BF1, the latest instalment in the Battlefield series and we were eager to test the mainstream cards of NVIDIA and AMD with mature drivers and optimized game code. To get a wide enough perspective of how well the cards perform, we selected 3 different story missions from the single player campaign - we did our best to stay in sync for all 4 recordings.
DICE was on of the few studios that used Mantle previously - AMD's low-overhead rendering API shares a lot in common with DirectX 12 -, so expectations were running high for BF1's DX12 option. Both cards show improved frame smoothness with DX12, but while the RX480's raw performance improves, the GTX1060 regresses compared to DX11.
